The real name of the famious and loved poet is not actually Pablo Neruda. Due to various problems both domestic and political he was forced to take on a different identidy. If his father were to have seen works published by Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto a uproar would have occurred.

With his father forbiding him to write poetry Neftali created his first alter identidy and that’s where Pablo Neruda was started. This was not his first name alteration either as for when he was christened RAMBO. These name alterations were not only useful to hide his works from his father but his secret identity no doubt became usefull when the chillean goerment were hunting down any suporters of communism.
